Abay River Bridge

Abay River Bridge

This project on the outskirts of Bahirdar in northern Ethiopia features a landmark extradosed bridge with a 380 m span, designed to carry six traffic lanes. The approaches are 51 m wide under normal conditions and expand to 59 m where bus bays are included. Built to asphalt concrete standards, the alignment runs through flat and rolling terrain. Special provisions include two-lane service roads (3.5 m + 2.5 m wide) on each carriageway unit and 3.5 m two-way cycle lanes on both sides, ensuring accessibility for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Delivered under a design and Build contract, the project is financed by the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with a construction cost of USD 49,594,478.
